What this tool checks
Mail servers and spam filters worldwide consult DNS-based Blackhole Lists (DNSBLs) before accepting a connection — a domain-name trick where checking whether <reversed-ip>.zone-name resolves at all tells the querying server "yes, this IP is known to send spam" or "no, it's clean." This tool resolves your domain's IP, then runs that same check against a small set of well-established public DNSBL zones.
Why this happens even to legitimate senders
Getting listed doesn't always mean you did something wrong. Shared hosting and cloud IP ranges get reused constantly — if a previous tenant of your current IP address sent spam or ran a compromised server, some DNSBLs won't have caught up yet, and you inherit their reputation until the listing expires or you request removal. This is one of the most common, and most confusing, causes of legitimate email suddenly landing in spam folders.
This is a sample, not a full reputation report
There are dozens of DNSBL operators, each with their own listing criteria and delisting process. This tool checks a small, well-known subset — enough to catch the most impactful listings (the ones major mail providers actually consult) without turning a quick check into a slow, exhaustive scan. A clean result here is a good sign, not a certificate.
